The Cycle of Learning
In a piece he calls Effortless Mastery of Argentine Tango, Stephen Brown describes the cycle of learning as I've experienced it in tango and in every other discipline. He takes the classic four stages of learning -- unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, and unconscious competence -- and places them in a cycle or spiral path. In other words, we need to get used to the idea of going through this process over and over again, in order to progress. Learning is not a linear process with a defined end point.
